Translation services involve converting texts from one language to another with the aid of project-specific tools and text editors.
When translating texts, many different formats can be used, such as HTML pages, help texts, software files, plain texts, Word or FrameMaker files, etc. The process involves differing procedures based on the type and nature of particular files. However, all text projects involve the following procedures:
- Creating or updating a glossary and ensuring the approval of the client
- Preparation of the customer’s style guide, determining the linguistic rules and styles, and again ensuring the client’s approval (dependent upon customer requests)
- Translation of the text based on the approved glossary
- Proofreading of the text
- Language Quality checks on the translated and proofread texts
- Technical quality control before delivery, and if required, after translation

- Resizing translated user interface dialog boxes to eliminate variation in the size and appearance of target texts from those of the source text
- Elimination of language errors and visual problems prior to the proofreading stage by engineers
